External wooden Doors:

Useful notes on the British standard for thief resistant locks BS3621:
1997, Key operation both sides, 15mm bolt when extracted, drill resistant
2004, Key operation both sides, 20mm bolt when extracted, drill resistant, anti pick.
2007, Key operation both sides, 20mm bolt when extracted, drill resistant, anti pick and anti bump.
Burglars’ are ruthless and do not use sophisticated entry methods, in most cases a harsh boot or crobar is used, some times if you leave garden tools laying around, they will even use shovels.
Also be sure not to attract them by putting empty boxes of expensive goods on display in your refuge.
Prevent this, photos taken on arival to a break-in repair, front door to a flat and house.

It is no good putting locks on a weak door, this is where having a Locksmith with building and Carpentry skills comes into its own.

Composite and upvc doors & windows :
Big problem:
If you are replacing or fitting new doors and windows, get ones that are certified to British Standard BS7950 (windows)
or PAS 24-1 (doors).
PAS 24-1 includes:
Anti bump/pick and snap safe cylinders conforming to EN 1303
Handles with hardened steel protection
Hardened pins in the cylinder
We can upgrade your existing upvc/composite door to PAS-24, but means changing the handle, cylinder and locking system. It might be better to change the door set.
PAS 24-1 mostly applies to composite and upvc door sets, however it is possible to make timber door sets to the PAS 24-1 specification. Although the multi points locks that PAS 24-1 is designed for, are not practical in timber, as the movement in wood tends to cause these types of locks to fail.
Windows: Applies to wood, upvc and aluminium
It is recommended by insurance companies and the Police, that you fit key locking locks to all down stairs windows and upstairs where there is a flat roof or ledge under the outside of the window. Basically anywhere it is easy for them to climb onto. Insurance companies are as sly as the thief’s so make sure you meet these minimum requirements.
